    Fundraiser created 1 day ago

KINGSLEY OKENWA is the organizer of this fundraiser.

Who I Am:

My name is KINGSLEY OKENWA ESQ.

I am a lawyer in Nigeria, and my heart has chosen the poor. I fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, because in my country justice is too often sold to the highest bidder, and the poor are left to rot. I work pro bono, not because I am wealthy, but because love is the only currency I can afford to spend.

What I Am Raising Funds For:
Every week, I step into police cells that reek of sweat, urine, and despair. I see men with hollow eyes, women whose voices have become whispers, and young boys who should be in school but are instead learning how to survive in cages.

Their stories are all the same: they are poor. A land quarrel. A borrowed phone. A petty argument. A debt of a few thousand naira. For these “crimes,” they are held for months, sometimes years, without trial. In Nigeria, bail is not free. It is a business. If you cannot pay between ₦150,000 and ₦1,000,000 ($100–$500), you do not go home. You wait. You decay. You become forgotten.

I am raising funds to:

  • Pay the basic court and filing fees that stand between freedom and endless detention.
  • Cover bail requirements for those too poor to pay.
  • Provide medical care for those released — men coughing blood, women broken in body and spirit.
  • Help them return to their families, who often did not even know if they were alive.

Why This Matters:
I will never forget a man I met in a dingy cell in Owerri. He had been detained for eight months because he threatened a neighbor during a quarrel over land. He was poor, a father of three, selling palm oil to survive. His children thought he had abandoned them. His wife stopped coming because she had no money left for transport. When I told him I was there to help, his eyes filled with tears. He whispered, “So I will see the sun again?”

This is the tragedy of being poor in Nigeria: it is not just about hunger, it is about being erased. And yet, I believe no one deserves to be forgotten.

Your Donation Impact:

  • $50 can file the papers that will bring someone home.
  • $100 can pay bail for a detainee who has been silenced for months.
  • $500 can cover the legal and medical costs to restore a human being to dignity.

Every dollar you give is not just money — it is a key. A key that unlocks a cell. A key that gives a child back their father. A key that tells a woman, “You are not forgotten.”

Together, we can free the forgotten. Together, we can make justice something more than a privilege for the rich.
